The language family includes over 2,000 languages and dialects spoken by millions of people. Africans have used more than 3,000 different scripts for writing African languages throughout history.
African Linguistics is the study of African languages. This includes examining how each language is structured, what its various sounds are, and what its grammar is like. Linguists divide African languages into four different families: Afroasiatic, Nilo-Saharan, Niger-Congo, and Khoisan.
